Our Materials
BIRCH PLYWOOD
Unlike the standard in the industry, we do not use MDF covered and edge banded to look like birch plywood or wood. We don't believe this is good enough.
We use exterior grade, premium Grade A face (highest grade available) rotary cut birch plywood as the base for all our fronts (apart from bamboo). Our oiled birch plywood fronts are Grade A face on both sides meaning it's free from plugs/blemishes.
Birch plywood is the ideal material for kitchens in our opinion, as it is stable, durable and strong. Better than solid wood which can move and warp, or MDF. MDF is susceptible to water damage, swelling, warping and is not as strong, especially in a humid environment like a kitchen.
Birch trees grow quickly making birch plywood a sustainable choice.
SOLID WOODS
Our solid wood veneers are all from native species, both for environmental and aesthetic reasons.
European oak has more varied grain patterns and tones than the cheaper, ubiquitous America oak.
In addition to European crown or textured oak, we also offer ash, walnut and London Plane.
We press these onto premium birch plywood front and back.
COLOUR
We offer three finishes for our coloured fronts, Linoleum, Fenix and Eco Laminate. all pressed on premium birch plywood.
Forbo Linoleum is unlike any other available surface material. It helps to create a kitchen that looks and feels truly distinctive. Its all-natural composition and special surface finish means Furniture Linoleum is naturally antistatic. This is an important practical advantage over other furniture finishes as the surface resists build-up of static charges. This helps prevent dust or dirt sticking to it and ensures the material remains unblemished, hygienic and clean. It feels similar to the aged leather of antique writing desks - it is strong and durable but soft so develops a patina of its own over time. The elegant, muted tones we have chosen (along with a bright pop of colour or two!) are simply unparalleled.
Fenix is a carbon neutral, innovative, next generation material - matt, soft to touch, scratch resistant, water repellent and hygienic. Superficial scratches can even be ironed out! The Fenix Bloom range makes use of even greener technologies and has a range of specific colours.
Our Matt laminates - Greenlam AFX and Luvih Merino - offer ultra-matt, anti-fingerprint surfaces. They are anti-bacterial, anti-virus, almost zero reflection surface, hydro, mould and scratch-resistant too
All finishes come in a carefully selected colour palette, inspired by nature.
BAMBOO
Bamboo is a fast-growing grass that’s lightweight and strong as well as very beautiful. We get our bamboo ply, which consists of several layers of bamboo for strength, from certified plantations to be sure it’s not only sustainable but produced responsibly. It is hard and durable and CO2 negative over its lifetime.
