Non-IKEA dishwashers need to sit on the floor, rather than be raised to be flush with the worktop. An additional panel in matching materials is then needed to fill the gap between the top of the dishwasher and the worktop. This is because IKEA Metod cabinets are taller and plinths are shorter than standard UK kitchen cabinets. This means the doors are taller and can often catch on the base of the appliance when the door is opened. Please discuss this with your kitchen planner/fitting team to ensure your preferred dishwasher will work, and let us know if you need an additional panel.
Alternatively, you can purchase a sliding door mechanism. IKEA sell the Behjaelplig hinge https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/behjaelplig-sliding-hinge-fully-int-dishwasher-60492349/hinge and there is an alternative produced by a company called adapt r https://www.adapt-r.co.uk/ This device slides the door away from the appliance as it's opened so that it doesn't catch on the base of the dishwasher. We haven't tested them so can't vouch for their effectiveness or durability. This device slides the door away from the appliance as it is opened ensuring it doesn't catch on the base of the dishwasher.
These are planning and fitting issues and we do strongly recommend you discuss these with your kitchen planner/fitter to ensure your appliance will fit, and to check with them if you require any additional panels from us.
Please also check the door weight limit of your non IKEA dishwasher and advise us so we can ensure our fronts don't exceed this weight. If you are adding a sliding hinge, this weighs approximately 2.8kg and will add to the overall weight of the door.
If you're planning to use a non-IKEA dishwasher and you're fitting your cabinets prior to receiving our fronts we recommend fitting a "test" door 597x797mm to the appliance to check that the bottom will not hit the plinth. It is possible that this particular door may dictate the height of the base units overall, so don't leave it until last.
